This series was inspired by seeing Jonas Mekas's 1966 experimental film "Notes on the Circus". I was mesmerized by the colour, the overlapping quickly moving imagery, and the general structure of the film. In 2001 I created the sculptural equivalent in polychromed welded steel, called "Cirque du Feraille" (the Scrap Iron Circus). My goal for this series was that it have vitality, an illusion of action, brightness and sense of humour.
